ACM Wall Panels

ACM Metal Panels
Metal Composite Material (MCM) and Aluminum Composite Material (ACM)

Michaels Sheet Metal recommends ACM wall panels as the leading exterior metal cladding available today. Aluminum composite material (ACM) is a three-layered sandwich that consists of two aluminum sheets that are pre-painted and bonded to a polyethylene core. Aluminum composite material (ACM) was introduced more than 50 years ago as several companies worldwide were manufacturing and using it for higher-end architectural projects.

These products, primarily made of aluminum coil, have evolved into metal composite material (MCM) because the natural metal skins are made primarily of copper, zinc, titanium, and stainless steel. However, aluminum is still the predominant metal in MCM panels and has a broad spectrum of colors. By incorporating these materials, metal composite material MCM provides more variety in cost and function. They are manufactured with metal skins on both sides of the core and gauged by the skin thickness. The minimum thickness that is required is 0.019 inches (0.5 millimeters). This thickness usually provides an acceptable layer of protection and enables the material to resist everyday exposure without experiencing significant visual damage.

Why Use MCM and ACM Panelling?

  • They provide a substrate that can be left in its natural state or painted and delivers a visually appealing product that can last for a long time.
  • They transfer wind loading from the panel surface to the anchorage system.
  • They play a vital role in the overall fire rating of the panel.

When used together, these panels can limit moisture and unwanted air that can impact the facade performance. Unfortunately, this performance can cause damage to building materials which can be costly and affect the occupant’s comfort and safety.

Skins also have finishes used to enhance the appearance of the façade. They provide a surface for the application of these finishes. Usually, these skins will neither expand nor contract excessively due to the temperature; hence they will not negatively impact the finish.

Many finish colors and options are available for aluminum skins. These finishes are available in everything from earth tones that have low-gloss finishes to rich colors that are vibrant and have high-gloss finishes. Other options include marble, granite, imitation wood, and other natural materials. Furthermore, some finishes have added clear coats to enhance the look to be brushed, polished, prismatic, anodized, or metallic and protect the finishes.

When To Use ACM Panelling

  • They can bend and curve into a variety of architectural shapes.
  • Usually turn buildings into works of art that have existed for a long.
  • Transform modern architectural designs.
  • Have a broad spectrum of finishes and colors.

There are a lot of benefits when one uses aluminum composite material ACM.

Why We Recommend ACM Panels

Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) is cost-effective

Over the past few years, ACM panels have grown in popularity with builders and architects because of the improved aesthetic designs and possibilities of use. But when designing a building, it is essential to consider the materials used and how cost-effective they are. Building types can range from commercial buildings and health facilities to architectural cornices, delicate designs, and corporate identity applications.

ACM is reliable and environmentally friendly

An ACM wall panel system designed, tested, and installed correctly provides a reliable building envelope by resisting the elements and offering superior protection against water and air infiltration. In addition, these panels are often made from recycled materials, thus offering options to environmentally conscious ones.

ACM is competitive and durable

The construction cost of an ACM system can be installed quicker than other alternative exterior products such as brick, granite, or precast, thus lowering the overall construction cost. The ACM systems are lightweight and can save money by reducing structural steel requirements. In addition, maintenance costs are significantly reduced due to the continued improvements in paint finishes, retaining its luster for decades, and ensuring the building maintains its value and aesthetic appeal. Cladding a facility with ACM wall panels tends to have higher curb appeal through generations.
